What is IBS?

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common digestive disorder that affects 10-20% of people globally. If you are part of that group, you know the frustrating struggles and inconveniences of IBS in daily life. This can range from the pain and discomfort to the trial and error of finding the right treatment plans. If you have yet to find an effective method, lifestyle support may help you find relief and improve your everyday life.

IBS is a chronic digestive disorder that affects the stomach and intestines. This disorder presents differently in each patient, but there are four subcategories of IBS. These include:

  • IBS-D (Diarrhea)

  • IBS-C (Constipation)

  • IBS-M (Mixed)

  • IBS-U (Undefined)

While the root cause of IBS is unknown, various factors influence one’s experience with the disorder. These factors include early life stress and stress in general, nervous system issues, changes in gut microbiomes, and severe infections.
